We have just got back from Little Moreton Hall (a NT place), They had a 'pickles and preserves day'. It was a small display/presentation but well worth the visit.
There were all sorts of things that I have not heard of before. For example buttered gooseberries, Bullace (wild plums). There was samples to try. Pickled eggs,Apricot Marmalade (that was more like Turkish delight in consistancy).
Add to that a really nice leek and potato soup followed by fresh egg and rocket sandwiches for lunch. A really nice and informative morning!
